Missionaries of the Holy Spirit (1914)

Fr. Felix de Jesus Rougier MSpS established our religious congregation under the protection of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 25th 1914 in Mexico City.

Pope Pius X approved our charism and gave us the name of Missionaries of the Holy Spirit.

The Church approved our Congregation and Constitutions on December 12th 1939.

We are a clerical religious institute of pontifical right.  The members of our Congregation can become priests, permanent deacons, or coadjutor brothers. (Cf. Constitutions, Art. 1)

SPIRITUALITY:

We are called to radically follow Jesus Christ Priest and Victim with the purpose of transforming ourselves in him and share his priestly sentiments animated by his same qualities and virtues: love, purity, and sacrifice.

We are called to imitate Christ in his obedient love to the Father, his humble love for humanity, and his purity and holiness of life, in order to exercise our common priesthood, offering him and and ourselves in union with him as pleasing hosts to God.
(Cf. Constitutions, Art. 2)

MISSION:

As apostles of the Holy Spirt and of the Cross, we are sent to promote holiness in God’s People according to our spirituality: in this way, we will spread the Reign of the Holy Spirit.
(Cf. Constitutions, Art. 3)

LIFE-STYLE:

We are vowed religious men.  We are “first and foremost contemplative, then men of action.” Our priority is contemplation.  Our apostolic work is ordered and subordinated to contemplation. We are called to be men of prayer, lovingly attentive to God, until contemplation becomes in us a state in which prayer dominates our whole life and our soul is continually under its influence.
(Cf. Constitutions, Art. 4-5)
